It is surprising the number of times I get asked," What kind of brush should I use?"
The answer is soft or ultra soft bristled toothbrushes. Even though it feels as if brushing with them is not doing anything, it is. It is destabilizing the biofilm that is attempting to create an environment that is conducive to creating cavities. That is all it needs to do. Presumably you are doing it at least every 12 hours. You don't need to scour your teeth. The bristles should be made of nylonI know some people are partial to natural hair bristles. I find they are more difficult to disinfect. I like electric toothbrushes. If you don't brush well they will force you to do an excellent job if you brush well then an electric toothbrush will not improve that. Change your toothbrushes every six months, with your dental cleanings.
Lastly clean your toothbrushes in the dishwasher. It is a terrific way to clean and disinfect your toothbrushes. It is much more effective than Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, and definitely better than those ultraviolet holders.
